Amanda Smith and the Christians with her at the old fashioned Holy Ghost camp meeting knew about the soul harming errors of Rome and were not afraid to speak about them. Today hardly any are willing to speak up and speak out about such things.  Here is a short excerpt from the book …

” … The power of the Spirit was manifest.  Brother Adams sat down in a tempest of glory.  It was the very Sunday that Rome was declaring the infallibility of the Pope.  Brother Boole sprang to his feet, as by inspiration and said, as he only could say it:

‘In Rome today they are crowning the Pope infallible;  let’s rise and sing  ‘All hail the power of Jesus’ name, and ‘Crown Him Lord of All,’  in our hearts forever.’

And the whole congregation rose in an instant as one.  I think I never heard such singing – never heard that old Coronation sung as it was that day. Yes, we crowned Him King of kings and Lord of lords.  Hallelujah! for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth!”

THE HIDING PLACE by Corrie Ten Boom – (Some content therein requires a word of caution.)

I recently finished reading Corrie Ten Boom’s “The Hiding Place” and found the book to be a great encouragement to my faith.  The book gives a personal account of God’s love, comfort and faithfulness.  You will read about the Lord’s power in the midst of the most horrid circumstances.  You will learn it is possible to love your enemies.  Having said that, I give a word of caution.  The book gives the impression that Roman Catholics are within the realm of orthodox Christianity.  This thinking is already widespread within the organized church of our day.  Needless to say to have it repeated within the pages of such a popular and encouraging book, by such a godly woman, is not good.  Apparently she did not have clarity on this issue.  The bottom line is that many Roman Catholics may never hear the true Gospel because born again Christians think they are saved.  The simple truth is Rome preaches “another gospel.”  You will also find within this book the teaching that the Jewish people, even though they reject the Gospel, remain the “apple of God’s eye”.  This teaching is  propagated by Pastor John Hagee and many, if not most, within the organized church.  Reader beware, these are not minor issues.  We as believers must be careful not to allow anyone to become an idol to us, and we must learn our theology only from the bible, as taught by the Holy Spirit.  The bottom line is … “what saith the Lord.”

“They were services like no others, these times in Barracks 28.  A single meeting night might include a recital of the Magnificat in Latin by a group of Roman Catholics.”

“Nights when Betsie and I reported to sick call we left the Bible with Mrs. Wielmaker, a saintly Roman Catholic woman from the Hague who could render the Dutch words in German, French, Latin, or Greek.”
