I was standing in front of the grocery store waiting for my husband to pick me up yesterday and as usual I had one of my Jesus hats on. (I love to proclaim His name!)

As often happens someone will see the hat and tell me they like it, and some will even stop for a few moments and talk. Yesterday it was an 80 year old man who was entering the store. “I like your hat” he said, and that started the conversation.

He told me this story…

When he was 36 years old he and his wife were involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, but then they left and started attending an Assembly of God church. During a service the Pastor said to them “I can’t believe I’m saying this to you, but God told me he wants you both to go back to the Catholic Church and evangelize.”

I said “a lying spirit”.

He happily said no no it wasn’t, and excitedly told me they did go back and stayed for another four or five years, as if that was a good thing.

By this time my husband had joined us. After we listened to his story we wanted to share our testimony of how and why we came OUT of the Catholic church, but his phone rang and he said he had to leave. He turned around and headed back to his car without ever going into the grocery store, and we never got to say a word.

I tell my grandchildren that if they don’t remember anything else I say to them remember this, know the Word of God for yourself, and you won’t be deceived by any falsehoods a Pastor may tell you.

I remember the story of a Catholic priest who left the Catholic church. He would park his car in front of his former parish and witness to the people when they came out of Mass, some even getting in the car with him. The former priest left and witnessed the Biblical way, God’s way, from without.

I myself have in the past stood in front of a Catholic church and handed out my testimony in tract form as the people left Mass.

John 16:13 tells us that the Holy Spirt is “the Spirit of truth” who “will guide you into all truth.” The Holy Spirt would never guide anyone back into the darkness of Roman Catholicism. The words of that Assembly of God Pastor, over 40 years ago, were obviously not from God.

Ezekiel 13:3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

My wife was a former Mormon, although she grew up Baptist. After she left the Mormon church, she wanted to still attend occasionally and try to won over some of them to Christ. After a few years she finally understood this wasn’t the way to do it. One time, I drove over to a Mormon church while they were in Sunday service and I placed tracts under the wipers of their car.
