PASTORS AND TEACHERS CALLING FOR UNITY WITH ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Matthew 24:3-4 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Before I was born again, and left the Catholic Church, I was heavily involved in the Roman Catholic Charismatic Renewal. I was part of more than one Catholic charismatic prayer group. As a Catholic charismatic I became…
– more devoted to Mary and praying the rosary,
– more devoted to Marian apparitions, especially Medjugorge,
– and more devoted to the Adoration of the “Blessed Sacrament” which is the communion host (Transubstantiation).
In short I became a devout Roman Catholic, embracing Rome’s false doctrines more completely and enthusiastically than ever before. And this was the experience of many of the Catholic charismatics I associated with.
I came out of Rome. I had people witness to me. The Gospel of Rome is a false Gospel that cannot and will not save anyone. Many stayed.
I say all this because Pastors today are calling for unity with Rome.
What if you brought your unsaved mother or father to a church service and heard that all denominations need to unite, and all denominations included the Catholic Church. I know my Roman Catholic parents would have been confused, and my father would have said “you see!” because he was resisting my Christian witness.
Today we have many well known pastors and leaders calling for unity with Rome.
Here’s one example. Carter Conlon of Times Square Church. You can read the excerpt below from his sermon or watch it at this video at the 10:35 mark. You will also find Beth Moore earlier in the video saying very clearly, with illustrations, that Roman Catholics are part of the Body of Christ. Hillsong Church is another group that calls for unity with Rome. Do research, the list is unending.

CHRISTMAS – ARE WE WORSHIPPING GOD IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH?

STRANGE FIRE
Leviticus 10:1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.
MacLaren:
So, then, the same divine fire, which had graciously signified God’s acceptance of the appointed sacrifice, now flashed out with lightning-like power of destruction, and killed the two rebel priests. There is dormant potency of destruction in the God who reveals Himself as gracious. The ‘wrath of the Lamb’ is as real as His gentleness. The Gospel is ‘the savour of life unto life’ and ‘of death unto death.’
Nadab and Abihu had been consecrated for the purpose of enforcing the truth of God’s holiness. They had done the very opposite, by breaking down the distinction between sacred and common.

2 Kings 17:34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

MacLaren:
This worship of Jehovah was, however, blended by them with their own national idolatry.
This was the beginning of the Samaritan people, whom we find through the rest of Scripture even down to the Acts of the Apostles, retaining some trace of their heathen origin.
Now I venture to take this verse as indicative of a tendency which belongs to a great many more people than the confused mass of settlers that were shot down on the hills of Israel by the king of Assyria. It is really a description of a great deal of what goes by the name of religion amongst us.
Pulpit:
This syncretism, this mixed religion, is so surprising to the writer, and so abhorrent to his religious sentiments, that he cannot but dwell upon it, not shrinking from repeating himself (see vers. 32, 33, 41), in order to arrest the reader’s attention, and point out to him the folly and absurdity of such conduct.

Dear beloved brethren, here are some things for us to consider…
Why do we, as born again Christians, celebrate the Roman Catholic Christmas?
Christmas is a pagan celebration that has been “Christianized” and added to Rome’s counterfeit Christianity.
Is it ever right to add to God’s Word?
Would we defend celebrating Christmas as much as we do if it were a season of fasting instead of feasting?
Does Gospel grace and freedom ever give us the freedom to go against Scripture?
The very fact that the name of Jesus is connected to the pagan Christmas celebration should be enough to make us recoil. Why aren’t we?
Are we “retaining some trace of our heathen origin”?
Are we counting the cost of following Jesus?
