I remember my husband (unlike me – an ex-R.C.) saying that he had early recollections of a statue with its nose half rubbed off with people touching it. He reckons that they must have thought that this was an object of worship, imparting something significant to them or they wouldn’t have touched it all the time!
I know what you mean. We kissed statues in church, had them in our home, visited Marian shrines, and wore medals around our necks thinking these were holy and had some kind of power to protect. We had a mighty deliverance. I am still amazed at what the Lord has done for us, both for me and my husband, within a few months of each other.
