“This Church is Full of Sinners”

TORBEN SONDERGAARD – The Last Reformation

Torben Sondergaard is an evangelist who has come from Denmark to establish his ministry base in the U.S. He has a worldwide ministry called “The Last Reformation” and is known for his “kickstart” events. I want to focus in this post on his teachings regarding water baptism and the casting out of demons. The reason I’m writing about him is that his ministry has now arrived in my area. When I did some research I was very disturbed by some of his seriously false teachings. He seems to have a huge following. Young people too. He teaches what you could call a form of baptismal regeneration. He also teaches a person can be delivered from demons before, during or after baptism. You can read his exact words below. I’m writing this to say beware if you come across his teachings. He’s very evangelistic and so are his followers. They have a lot of zeal, and his teachings can easily draw and ensnare the young, the new believer, and the older ones too.

Quote from Torben Sondergaard’s YouTube video…

“We can cast demons out before baptism, we can cast demons out while they are being baptized, or we can cast demons out after they are baptized.”

“When people come out of the water, pray like there is a demon, and command that demon to go if there’s something, and you’ll see many times there is a demon and it’s leaving, and that person has spiritual freedom.”

People who are possessed by demons are not saved and shouldn’t be getting baptized before they are delivered and filled with the Holy Ghost.

Quote from Torben Sondergaard’s YouTube video…

“Do I believe baptism is part of salvation, yes I do, of course I do. Do I believe baptism saves us, yes this is what I believe. … Its not a what who saves, it’s a who that saves, and that is Jesus Christ. Jesus is saving us, and he has said to us that we should repent and that we should wash away our sins by getting baptized in water and then we receive the Holy Spirit. I believe baptism is necessary, it is part of salvation, but don’t say if someone is in China in a jail and he repents and calls on Jesus and Jesus comes and reveals himself to him, but there’s no water therefore he cannot get baptized don’t say he is lost forever … if he takes a little water and puts it his head and says now I’m baptized, do I believe God can use that, I believe God can use anything, God is God, of course he can do that, he can take a little water on the head with that person who is in a jail in China and use that by setting him free and washing him clean.”

The blood of Jesus washes us from our sins, not water baptism.

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

1 Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Revelation 1:5  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Torben Sondergaard would be considered a charismatic. Unfortunately because of the bizarre teachings and behaviors in the charismatic circle many have denied that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today. I guess you could say they’ve thrown out the baby with the bath water. I do not believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirt have ceased, but I do believe that there are many counterfeits out there.

My heart really goes out to young people, and old, who have embraced Torben’s teachings. They have a lot of zeal and love for souls. This makes it doubly sad that they have gotten caught up in his teachings. I think of my own grandchildren, and I wouldn’t want them or anyone else be deceived by the zeal that surrounds his ministry. I pray for him and all who have already been caught up in his false teachings.

Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

I want to add that I do believe a person should be baptized. After I was born again I was water baptized, by full immersion, to acknowledge my co-union with Jesus Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection, and the newness of life I received in him. It was a joyful time. Why start your walk with Christ by not getting baptized. Another believer can baptize you in your bathtub, in a lake or at the beach if you don’t have a “church”. We are the church. My husband and I were baptized on the same day, and it was such a joy, but it didn’t save us, we were already saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. And of course, if you cannot be baptized you are still saved!

Today, on this beautiful May day, as I opened my Bible, a tiny piece of paper fell out with this short excerpt, on a subject which I have often …
