IN MY MOTHER’S WOMB

Psalm 139-13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

Treasury of David, C.H. Spurgeon

“Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.” There I lay hidden – covered by thee. Before I could know thee, or aught else, thou hadst a care for me, and didst hide me away as a treasure till thou shouldst see fit to bring me to the light. Thus the Psalmist describes the intimacy which God had with him. In his most secret part – his reins, and in his most secret condition – yet unborn, he was under the control and guardianship of God. If we are marvelously wrought upon even before we are born, what shall we say of the Lord’s dealings with us after we quit his secret workshop, and he directs our pathway through the pilgrimage of life? What shall we not say of that new birth which is even more mysterious than the first, and exhibits even more the love and wisdom of the Lord.

Psalm 139-15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Treasury of David, C.H. Spurgeon

“My substance was not hid from thee.” The substantial part of my being was before thine all-seeing eye; the bones which make my frame were put together by thine hand. The essential materials of my being before they were arranged were all within the range of thine eye. I was hidden from all human knowledge, but not from thee: thou hast ever been intimately acquainted with me.

“When I was made in secret.” Most chastely and beautifully is here described the formation of our being before the time of our birth. A great artist will often labour alone in his studio, and not suffer his work to be seen until it is finished; even so did the Lord fashion us where no eye beheld us, and the veil was not lifted till every member was complete. Much of the formation of our inner man still proceeds in secret; hence the more of solitude the better for us.

And curiously wrought it in the lowest parts of the earth.” “Embroidered with great skill,” is an accurate poetical description of the creation of veins, sinews, muscles, nerves, etc. What tapestry can equal the human fabric?

A MOTHER’S PRAYER

A MOTHER’S PRAYER

A child, a gift from God above,

A child, to care for and to love,

Her days on earth have just begun,

Like morning dew and rising sun.

*

Oh Lord, I give this child to Thee,

Her steps and life to oversee,

To guide and watch, and to her show,

The many blessings You bestow.

*

Grant her Your wisdom from above,

Show her Your mercy and great love,

But most of all I ask of Thee,

Show her the Cross of Calvary.

*

Open her heart while she’s still small,

To hear the beckon of Your call,

And when her earthly race is run,

To hear You say, “My child, well done”.

*

The Bible tells us of two births,

One from above, one of this earth,

When all her days on earth are told,

I pray Your face she will behold.

John 3:6-7  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

THE DELAY – A Poem

Years ago I had a desire to become involved in Vacation Bible School (VBS), so I asked the Lord to open a door for me to do so. The years passed and no opportunity came. I all but forgot my prayer until one day, years later, it came to mind again and I asked the Lord why He didn’t answer my prayer, because I thought it was a good prayer. I also told the Lord that I accepted His ways in my life, and that He knew best, even though I didn’t understand. It was at that point that my prayer was answered.

THE DELAY

Once upon a summertime past,

I talked to the Lord, and this I asked,

Remember my prayer for a VBS,

Lord, why did it never come to pass?

*

A good prayer I thought, for the summer season,

But Lord I know you have a reason,

I will trust whatever comes from your hand,

But I must confess Lord, I don’t understand.

*

A still small voice I heard in my spirit,

“Do it now” … I could hardly believe it!

The timing was perfect, this I now saw,

The children around me, the Lord would draw.

*

I was so excited, all doubts were gone,

That very summer a VBS was born,

Neighborhood children, so many were they,

Gathered together they learned of God’s ways.

*

The Bible was taught to these sweet little ones,

A beautiful work our God had begun,

They ate and they played, and sang many a song,

We had VBS for three summers long!

*

The Lord hears all of the prayers we have prayed,

And in His great wisdom sometimes He delays,

To answer until the time is just right,

Giving us seasons of joy and delight!

The VBS lasted for three summers. The parents were very open to their children coming and some even asked if we would have another VBS when summer came around again the following year. I gave each parent a sheet of paper showing them what would be taught, and I asked them to sign a permission slip for their children to attend. I also asked the parents to list any food allergies their children had. (I used to work for a large church.) These were the children and families that I knew, and my grandchildren knew, from the neighborhood.

1 Corinthians 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Delay is not denial…

John 11:14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
