“Cursed be the man before the Lord, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho.” — Joshua 6:26

Since he was cursed who rebuilt Jericho, much more the man who labours to restore Popery among us. In our fathers’ days the gigantic walls of Popery fell by the power of their faith, the perseverance of their efforts, and the blast of their gospel trumpets; and now there are some who would rebuild that accursed system upon its old foundation. O Lord, be pleased to thwart their unrighteous endeavours, and pull down every stone which they build. It should be a serious business with us to be thoroughly purged of every error which may have a tendency to foster the spirit of Popery, and when we have made a clean sweep at home we should seek in every way to oppose its all too rapid spread abroad in the church and in the world. This last can be done in secret by fervent prayer, and in public by decided testimony. We must warn with judicious boldness those who are inclined towards the errors of Rome; we must instruct the young in gospel truth, and tell them of the black doings of Popery in the olden times. We must aid in spreading the light more thoroughly through the land, for priests, like owls, hate daylight. Are we doing all we can for Jesus and the gospel? If not, our negligence plays into the hands of the priestcraft. What are we doing to spread the Bible, which is the Pope’s bane and poison? Are we casting abroad good, sound gospel writings? Luther once said, “The devil hates goose quills” and, doubtless, he has good reason, for ready writers, by the Holy Spirit’s blessing, have done his kingdom much damage. If the thousands who will read this short word this night will do all they can to hinder the rebuilding of this accursed Jericho, the Lord’s glory shall speed among the sons of men. Reader, what can you do? What will you do?

In yesterday’s Sunday sermon a born again pastor told a story, and this is how he began…

“I was reading a story about a priest in the Philippines. A much loved man of God… he said that in his parish there was a woman who deeply loved God who claimed to have such a living relationship with God that God would give her visions at times.”

What’s wrong with that statement?

The Philippines has a large Roman Catholic population. The pastor didn’t actually say the words Roman Catholic priest, but because he spoke of a priest and a parish I’m sure everyone understood that’s what he meant. Should I be surprised? Every time I hear a pastor refer to Roman Catholicism as valid Christianity it’s like getting a fresh wound. We’ve been praying for pastors. Every pastor we’ve ever spoken to about ecumenism in the church wouldn’t listen to us. Only the Lord can open their eyes.

I left the following comment on their YouTube channel. Before I finished writing this post, my comment had already been deleted. I used the words “knock off” (as in imitation) in my comment, because he used those words to warn the congregation against believing something that’s spiritually fake. Right after that, he proceeded to tell the priest story. 🤦‍♀️

My comment…

“I speak in the Name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Roman Catholicism is a knock off of true Christianity. It’s fake. It will damn your soul. I’m praying that the Lord will open your eyes to this truth. 🙏 We need to evangelize Roman Catholics, including the priests etc., and educate born again believers about the false gospel of Roman Catholicism. Pastors don’t want to be found preaching error when they stand before the Lord. I say this in love. ♥️ I am sure that Jesus would not want you to delete this comment, because we are talking about the eternal destiny of souls. Ecumenism has taken over the church world. Dare to be a Daniel, Dare to stand alone. Speak the truth in love and bear His reproach outside the camp.”

My husband recently bought and has been wearing Scripture t-shirts. (See photos below.) The words on the shirts are HUGE, so we started to wonder whether or not the printing was overkill. We prayed and asked the Lord what He thought, expecting the Lord to answer but not knowing how He would do that. My husband put on one of the shirts and out the door we went to do our errands.

We entered BJ’s and as we walked down the isle a woman came up to him, thanked him for wearing the shirt and said that everyone should be wearing a shirt like that. Not long after, in the same store, another woman told him she liked his shirt. And as we left the store, the woman who checked our receipt said the very same thing. Very encouraging! That was three people in one store, and in a very short period of time! But that was only the beginning. He’s had other men, women and even young adults take the time to joyously, and I mean joyously, encourage us by commenting on these shirts. It reminded us of the time when another believer told him he should not be preaching on the subway. He prayed and told the Lord that if he didn’t want him to preach on the subway he would stop. But the very next day when on his way to work on the subway, three different people who had heard him preach on the subway came up to him with very encouraging words. He knew he needed to keep on preaching. (During that time we were able to get boxes of those pocket size Gideon New Testaments from our church. Billy would give them out as he preached. The people loved them and scooped them up.)

When Billy and I pray together every night we ask the Lord to bless the saints and minister to the lost as he wears these shirts around town. It’s amazing how many believers are close by and we don’t even know it. These shirts have been a wonderful blessing to us and others in BJ’s, Publix, Wawa, Costco, Kohl’s and even in the complex where we live. And the unsaved get to read the Scriptures on the shirts. It’s unavoidable. It may be the only Scripture they ever see and the only Gospel they ever hear.
